While dentistry is a profession that should be centered around delivering high-quality dental care to promote patient well-being, it unfortunately doesn’t stop some practitioners from thinking solely about money and profit when it comes to their work. When this happens, it often leads to over-diagnosing and subsequently over-treating their patients because they’re focused on making a few more bucks any way they can rather than actually considering whether the patient truly needs a certain treatment.
At Choice Austin Dental, this line of thinking is miles away from our practice philosophy. Our team isn’t here to try and make an easy buck off of the people coming to us for oral healthcare. We strive to do what’s best for our patients and keep our treatment as conservative as possible.
Less Is Best
Dental care isn’t one of those things where the more you have of it, the better off you’ll be. Yes, you should be getting basic oral care on a routine basis, but you shouldn’t be buried under a mountain of treatments. One of our goals at Choice Austin Dental is to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. There’s nothing that can match the perfect structure and strength of a real tooth! We don’t recommend a treatment to our patients unless we believe it would benefit their oral health. When someone overdoes it with dental treatment, they can end up chipping away at that structure with each bit of work they do. In our point of view, that’s definitely not the right way to go about things!
Second Opinion
If you feel like your current dentist is pushing treatments on you that you don’t need, we recommend that you visit another dental practice for a second opinion. Many places may provide this consultation for free. Even if not, the small amount you’d have to pay for a second opinion is worth it to get some peace of mind before you shell out a whole lot more for a procedure that might be unnecessary.
